In the two sessions on Thursday Jan Lammers set a fastest lap of 3’34.864. After the rain and a very slippery track on Wednesday, conditions were good today at the Circuit de la Sarthe. The sun was out in force and temperatures were high again. Jan Lammers started the session, going out first. After three laps Alex Yoong took over for a full race stint. Stefan Johansson then got a real chance to get to know the Dome S101 Hb Judd, taking over from Alex. At the end of the session Jan Lammers stepped in again for a qualifying session. After the first session Racing for Holland were in fifth. Everybody lined up at 10 o’clock for the second and deciding session of the day. Lammers went out for a few runs but was unable to better his time set at the end of the first two hours. Stefan Johansson took over from Lammers to get as much laps in the dark under his belt. In the end the team was pleased with the result and the race pace of the Racing for Holland Dome looks good. In total the team drove 83 laps, without any real problems.Jan Lammers: “I’m very pleased about the result. The car felt good all through the sessions. Maybe we could have gone some two seconds quicker, but on my fastest lap a Lola spun in front of me. The Audi’s were already clear, but we and the Pescarolo’s suffered a bit from that. After a few qualifying laps we concentrated on letting Stefan drive in the dark as much as possible”.Alex Yoong: “Our times and race pace look competitive. I did a long run today and the car felt good. I’m pleased about the qualifying result”.Stefan Johansson; “The car feels really good and easy to drive. I’m still learning to get the maximum out of the car. Today I did not push to hard, because I did not want to take to much risk in the dark. The result is good, of course we would have liked to start from fifth, but here your grid position is irrelevant 5 laps into the race”.Audi took the pole today, as expected, scoring a 1-2. The Pescarolo’s are directly behind, followed by the numer 13 Courage. Saturday at 17.00 hours the 74th Le Mans 24 Hours will kick off.

Ameican Le Mans Series New England Grand Prix Preview

The 2006 New England Grand Prix marks the American Le Mans Series' third visit to the eight-turn, 1.54-mile Lime Rock Park course. The R8 is unbeaten in its first two visits to Lime Rock Park dating back to the inaugural event in 2004, and is on a three-race win streak in 2006 in the LMP1 class. Allan McNish and Dindo Capello piloted the R8 to an overall win at Houston and another class win at Mid-Ohio.
Audi considers the R10 TDI a "completely new design" compared to the R8. One major example: the integration of the monocoque and bodywork. On the R10 TDI, the majority of the carbon-fiber parts belonging to the monocoque are suspended directly in the air flow. There are five other areas of significant differences in the R10: 1) a second roll-over structure; 2) a more pointed nose configuration; 3) a stepped front splitter; 4) a longer wheel base; and 5) revised mounting of the rear wing on the car's center line.
For Lime Rock, Audi Sport North America has created a unique design for the R8 for its farewell race. The names of all 18 drivers who won a race in the R8 will be visible and the names of the 23 race tracks worldwide on which the R8 won – from its debut at Sebring (March, 2000) to the its 62nd overall win at Houston (May 12).
• Seven of the 12 2006 winners at Le Mans have American Le Mans Series victories as a part of their front-running résumés, and the 12 Le Mans winning drivers this year have amassed a total of 315 Series starts, a competitive compliment to the growth and status of the American Le Mans Series on the world racing stage.
